There is a staggering number of bird species on the planet, many living right here in Kansas. From songbirds to predatory birds, there are birds all around. There are many unique and well-executed partnerships with these feathery creatures, for instance, the relationship between hummingbirds and hawks. Hummingbirds often nest or perch under a hawk, the hawk is too slow to catch a hummingbird so the hummingbirds are safe from harm and receive bodyguard-like protection from other predators. Learning about the birds living in Kansas and their habits help birders and scientists identify all different species and their migratory patterns.
